On May 14, 2020, the Agriculture Ministry released Rs 18,517 crores under PM-KISAN scheme. This will help benefit 9.25 crores of families.
The Government of India has so far released Rs 18,517 crores under PM-KISAN scheme since the lock down. The funds were released as a part of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana.
On one side, GoI is distributing food grains and pulses for free under the Public Distribution System to ease the lives of the people during lock down.On the other side, the Government is procuring rabi crops. During this rabi season 2020-21, the GoI has procured 269 lakh tonnes of wheat through Food Corporation of India. Also, 3.17 lakh tonnes of grams, 3.67 lakh tonnes of mustard and 1.86 lakh tonnes of Toor have been procured.
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was launched on 24th February, 2019. Under the scheme, all the small and marginal farmers are to be provided with income support of Rs 6,000 per year in three installments. The amount is to be directly deposited to the farmers’ accounts. The annual expenditure estimated to implement the scheme is Rs 75,000 crore.
